Students pitch innovative products in Dragon's Den style competition

Zaine Kingi was all smiles after winning last week’s “The Incubator”competition on our Auckland Campus. This is the first time we have run the dragons den style competition where the Bachelor of Applied Science students present their innovations to a panel of judges, with the winner taking home a $500 cash prize, toward the implementation of their product.

This event was a big day for the degree students. They had been working on the innovative product for the last 6 months, during their Open Polytechnic Innovation and Sustainability paper. Each student presented their innovation, design process and 3D models to the judges. The high quality of each of the presentations made it hard to reach a decision, but Zaine’s design for a Multi –Width Actuator impressed the judges. His innovative design allows users of pressurised spray cans to control the angle of spray allowing different types of application. We would like to congratulate all of our students on their hard work, and wish them the very best in bringing their innovations to market. Yoobee School of Design offers a one-year pathway to the Open Polytechnic Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSci) at our Auckland Campus.
