“I’ve always had a passion for art and computing and did well in these subjects at school. After finishing high school I did a short course with ACG Yoobee and decided that was what I wanted to do. I started off with iCreate (their first iCreate course after the Christchurch earthquake), and went on to complete my Diplomas.I particularly enjoyed our photography classes, the group projects and industry visits, and I think one of the most valuable things I learnt was the order in which to design – doing research and sketching your ideas before going onto designing on screen is a key part of the creative process.
“In my last year of study I got the opportunity to complete a rebrand project for Ian Coombes Ltd, and since then I’ve taken on a few other freelance projects including a website for local artist Wilhelm Ruifrok, as well as a brand launch and summer festival material for Otago group Yarnit.
“About a year after graduating I landed my current role as a Junior Designer for Giesen Wines, where I’m responsible for marketing requested by our sales teams in NZ, Australia and the US, as well as assisting the Graphic Designer in creating new brands, labels and marketing material. I also look after our website and our UK and US Facebook followers. I love being part of a great team and Kiwi business, and being able to help shape and push our brand is something I’ve always wanted to do. Studying at ACG Yoobee gave me all the right skills for this role! One day, I hope to become an art director for a large New Zealand company or run my own design practice.”
