Graduate Success

Harrison Lazarides

Employed at ACG Tertiary & Careers Group

“One of the big things ACG Yoobee encouraged me to do was to be confident speaking in front of large groups, and not to be nervous about presenting my work. During my Diploma in Digital Media (Advanced) I developed really strong communication and people skills, enabling me to speak with clients and gain a great network base for future jobs.

“During the course my tutor offered my classmate and I a job designing a direct marketing piece for a not-for-profit company called Blue Carrot Catering. We created a package they could send out to their clients, which included a packet of seeds, instructions on how to grow them, and a laser-cut garden stake. We sent it to the local printers to get a die cut made and the print director thought the idea was so amazing that he entered it into the Pride of Print Awards. Not only was it great to get some real life experience before our final year project, but we won Gold!

“The end of year project for DMA was to find a client and design something for them. I chose to re-brand Zibibbo, a very well-known Wellington restaurant owned by a Michelin starred chef. I thoroughly enjoyed the process, and the ongoing conversations with the client. It was a great way to develop my skills – skills that I still use today.

“I graduated from ACG Yoobee at the end of 2013 and was fortunate to get a foot in the door straight away, working as a junior pre-press Mac operator for Image Centre Group (who were bought out by Printing.com shortly after). I spent a year in the print industry before being offered a job as a marketing assistant, graphic designer and photographer for bathroom company Plumbline.

“Most recently I was head hunted by ACG Tertiary & Careers to move up to Auckland and join their marketing team as the graphic designer. This job really appealed because they’re the brains and designs behind ACG Yoobee School of Design. One of my dreams has been to design the face of ACG Yoobee nationwide!

“I picture my career as a staircase and I’m climbing to the top. I started in Wellington and now I’m in Auckland gaining more experience. From here I’d like to move to either Sydney or Melbourne and further down the track London, Germany or New York. The plan is to one day own and direct my own design agency.”
