If you’re passionate about all things digital but you’re still wanting to work out which creative course will lead to your dream career, Yoobee’s Level 4 Certificate in Creative Media is the course for you!

This introductory course has been especially designed to give you a taste of every digital design discipline.  Over the course of 20 weeks, you’ll try your hand at graphic design, film-making, animation, and interactive design. You’ll be introduced to a range of industry-standard software and learn the fundamentals of photography, video creation and editing,  web development, character development, and even a little bit of coding!

By the end of this course, you’ll have all the basic skills you need to work out which creative pathway is right for you. Better yet, you’ll have developed a mini-portfolio with all the cool design assets you’ve created along the way. This will be the perfect tool to apply for one of Yoobee’s Level 5 diplomas or for a junior role in the worlds of advertising, web design, graphic design, or news media.

Successfully complete this course and you’ll receive the New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4)   [Ref: 2635].

Course highlights


Design: Learn what makes a design element successful by getting a handle on the principles of design. You’ll be using InDesign and Photoshop to create design assets and finding out what makes certain design appeal to certain people by learning more about target audiences. You’ll even be able to find out how to create your own animated gifs!

Film: What makes a film Oscar-worthy? During this module, you’ll learn about the history of films and the filmmakers behind them. You’ll find out more about the production planning process and how film-makers tell incredible stories through the lens of a camera. 

Animation: Using Illustrator and other digital softwares, you’ll be able to try your hand at a range of animation techniques including claymation, stop-motion, and shadow puppetry. You’ll also learn how to tell incredible stories through the animated character that you’ve designed.

Interactive: This module will introduce you to the basics of both UX and UI (User Experience and User Interface) design! You’ll touch on the principles of code and work on interactive projects, such as creating simple websites and learning about what makes a game truly playable.

While you won’t be ready to take the design world by storm quite yet, this course is the first step towards an amazing creative career. Once you’ve worked out what area of digital design you’re most passionate about, you’ll be able to use your brand new mini-portfolio to apply for a number of Yoobee Diplomas such as the Diploma in Digital Design – Web and Graphic Design or the Diploma in Digital Design – Animation and Film Production.

Careers that this certificate could lead to include:

CHARACTER ANIMATOR – create and design characters or worlds using 2D and 3D animation software.

IN-HOUSE GRAPHIC DESIGNER - unleash your graphic design expertise in the creative department of a corporation, retail business or agency.

WEB DESIGNER – tap into both your creative and technical sides to carve a career building and redesigning websites.

GAME DEVELOPER – create the video games that the whole world loves. Play to your strengths – in this industry you can specialise in anything from concept and story writing to coding and programming.

You may also be able to use your new mini-portfolio to work your way into assistant roles in the advertising, web design, design, or news media industries



Entry Requirements close

There are no portfolio requirements for this course. For domestic students, if you are over the age of 16,  achieved NCEA Level 2 or its equivalent,  and have an interest in design along with basic computer skills, you’ll be all set to start the Certificate in Creative Media.

 

If English isn’t your first language though, you’ll need an IELTS 5.5 Academic (with no subtests lower than 5.0) or equivalent.
