The introductory photography course is designed to introduce students to the scope, content and training practices of the one year Photography course.  The same image processing and image evaluation training practices used on the full-time diploma course will be used during the short course.

What you'll learn

Students receive training and hands-on experience in

  • professional digital photographic cameras, lenses and accessories
  • professional studio flash equipment in photographic studios
  • image processing computer facilities
  • lighting and exposure exercises

All course participants utilise the studio equipment to produce their own photographs.

Upon completion, participants receive a certificate confirming their participation and the production skills covered. During the course all participants are assessed in order to evaluate their potential for further study and work in the photographic industries.  Students are trained by industry-experienced tutors and the course is held at South Seas extensive production facilities.

What you should know


Adobe CC Photoshop


Attendees need to bring their own DSLR camera, memory card, USB memory stick or any kind of personal hard drive (Apple Mac compatible).

Entry Requirements

Minimum age 15 years

Once you have successfully completed this course, develop your skills with either the Diploma in Photography or choose the New Zealand Diploma In Screen Production
