ACG Yoobee School of Design graduate, Poppy Sparrow won the Digital Process for Print Award, the GAPF Scholarship and was a finalist in the 2014 Apprentice of the Year!
Poppy, who studied Computer Graphic Design in Christchurch, was absolutely blown away to win the Digital Process for Print Award, the $2000 GAPF Scholarship and be named as a finalist in the 2014 Apprentice of the Year Awards.
“I am a complete print nerd, so to win this is mind blowing and brilliant,” says Poppy.
“I think it becomes a passion when you can’t turn it off, it’s with you all the time. It's every billboard you see, every small sticker on a bumper when you’re stuck in traffic, you start analysing, going ‘that margin’s not big enough’ or ‘it’s trimmed terribly."
Poppy's current role at DPI (Digital Process for Print) involves preparing files for digital, offset or sign writing print processes. "I operate the CTP processor and 2 Konica Minolta digital presses. We use Adobe Creative Suite on Mac's to design and prepare everything from business cards and menus to vehicle wraps and books."
"All the skills I learned at ACG Yoobee were immediately drawn upon and relevant to the tasks I was given. All those assignments I completed gave me skills I needed. I made my transition from student to useful employee, creating income for my company very quickly.
"There was always something creative happening on campus, or someone like minded to talk to. The software and hardware were the latest available, and what was actually being used by designers and print companies out in the industry. All of my tutors were awesome people with a wealth of industry knowledge that they were happy to share."
"If I had to describe ACG Yoobee in less than 5 words, I would say - industry relevant, creative developers!"
