The countdown is on for Nelson school-leaver Cassidy Taylor. Next week the talented 18 year old will say goodbye to the South Island’s sunniest city (not to mention her family and friends), and start a new life in Christchurch – all in the name of Design! Cassidy is about to embark on ACG Yoobee’s Diploma of Computer Graphic Design, and is fully-amped about all that 2015 will bring. Follow her journey here…
“Hi! I’m Cassidy!
I’m nuts about design, and can’t wait to start my ACG Yoobee course on February 9. I’ve always been passionate (ok, obsessed) about photography and art design. It’s safe to say that it’s what I love doing more than anything. And I mean anything! During my senior years at Garin College I won Distinction in Art Design in Level 1, Distinction in Photography in Level 2, and last year for Level 3 I won the Vicki Turnbull Prize for Excellence in Photography and Distinction in Photography. I was also awarded the Aronsten Cup for Excellence in Media Production for doing the school yearbook.
I’ve always wanted to study graphic design at tertiary level and I’ve heard so many great things about ACG Yoobee. Going down to the ACG Yoobee Open Day got me even more fired up! I can’t believe I get to study what I love for a whole year. I’m feeling so lucky right now! It’s also going to be really cool experiencing life somewhere other than Nelson. Not that I don’t love my hometown of course, just that it will be awesome to try living somewhere new, and also to try flatting, as I’ve lived at home all my life. I’ve already got my Christchurch flat lined up – I don’t know anyone in it, but I can’t wait to meet them all when I move in on Waitangi Day.
As well as feeling super-buzzed about what lies ahead, I must admit, I’m also a little nervous. It’s going to be hard saying goodbye to my family and friends (I just have to remember they’re only a phone call away!) and I’m also a bit anxious about moving to Christchurch, especially after the earthquakes. But I have friends from college who are also moving down and I know a few other folk there too so I’m sure I’ll settle in quickly.
The way I see it, this year will be my first giant step towards an exciting design career, preferably in the field of magazine layout and design. Fingers crossed! I have no doubt ACG Yoobee will help me get to where I want to go. I just can’t wait to get started!
