Cassidy’s Journey at ACG Yoobee Christchurch Part 6

A flurry of recent weddings has proved to be an unlikely source of inspiration for Graphic Design student Cassidy Taylor this month.  Read on to find out how these special occasions with family and    friends have influenced her latest design project….

Our latest assignment has been to create a contemporary magazine – on any topic and in any style! Because I’ve been to a few weddings lately I opted to make a bridal magazine, using InDesign for the layout and Photoshop for photo manipulation.  The process was so much fun and I loved having the opportunity to explore a topic I really enjoy.  I got in touch with a couple of wedding photographers and developed an interview component for the magazine, which really helped bring it to life. (Check out what I did with Nelson-based wedding photographer Luke Marshall’s interview here.)

We spent two weeks on the assignment and once it was finished we had to make the magazine suitable for an iPad. We could include all sorts of cool features like scrollable frames, slideshows and buttons – I had a heap of fun experimenting with all the different options, and learnt a lot of new InDesign skills in the process.

I’m now halfway through my Diploma of Computer Graphic Design. I can’t believe how fast the first six months have flown by.  Studying at ACG Yoobee has turned out to be everything I’d dreamed it would be…challenging, yet fun.  I couldn’t have hoped for anything better!  I feel really good about what I’ve achieved so far.  I’ve grown a lot in my design ability and I’m super-excited to see what the second half of the course has in store for me.  Although making the end-of-year portfolio seems slightly terrifying, I’m really looking forward to it at the same time.  I can’t wait to gather all of my work together and see how much I’ve grown over the course of the year!
