They’ve learnt how to create uber-cool logos, CD covers and zines and design a compelling website. They’ve collaborated on a film and even dipped their toes into the exciting world of
animation. And now this group of creative teens are showcasing their talents at a special exhibition to be held at ACG Yoobee Tauranga later this month.
The 17 Youth Guarantee students are about to graduate from ACG Yoobee’s Vocational Pathways: Creative Industries course. The 24-week programme is free for 16 – 19 year olds, and is hailed as the ideal stepping stone into a creative career. If the work of these young graduates is anything to go by, their futures in the industry are certainly looking promising.
“These kids are incredibly talented and they’ve created some really amazing work,” said tutor Tukara Matthews.
“I think some of them are really going to go places in the creative industries.”
The exhibition – which will be held on Tuesday July 26, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm - has beenorganised by the students themselves as part of their curriculum.
“As well as creating all the artworks, they’ve had to organise the food and drinks, the printing and the hanging of the artworks. It has been a great learning experience for them.”
