“In the last two months of high school I started to narrow down my options for tertiary study. My school careers advisor helped me decide on a creative pathway, and after talking to a friend who had done a short course at ACG Yoobee, and attending one of their presentations, I decided to enrol. I started with the Certificate in Digital Media (iCreate) which gave me a good foundation and an overview of diploma level study options. “Over the next two years I completed two diplomas, gained a confident knowledge of 3D graphics and produced a solid showreel, http://youtu.be/hhamm5hjqcM. Then I set off to find employment, and thanks to a combination of skills, opportunity and the power of networking, I scored an interview that landed me a paid internship at game development company, Cerebral Fix.
“I spent the first few months there sculpting models for an upcoming multiplayer tower defence, due for BETA release on mobile devices in the next few months. From there I was entrusted with more responsibilities including rigging and animation. I find the technical knowledge and communication skills I gained at ACG Yoobee particularly useful in the workplace. In fact they’re essential for getting the job done when you’re part of a team. “In five years’ time, I see myself working for game companies in UK, US or Australia – although eventually I plan to return to New Zealand to apply all I’ve learned to more home-grown projects.”Jordan Studied
