How has your course at Yoobee helped you?
It helped me gain a great foundation, in particular about Adobe software used in the design industry. It gave me confidence to go out and apply for work in the design field.
Where are you working now? And what is your role?
Ashford Handicrafts Ltd, Marketing Assistant.
What does your work involve?
The role is quite varied, tasks include updating the website, textile work such as weaving and design of promotional material such as posters and flyers. It is great being able to put into practise the skills learnt at Yoobee, particularly with the computer software, layout and typography.
What is the most exciting aspect of your job?
The opportunity to be involved in a creative, unique and collaborative industry.
Did your course at Yoobee live up to your expectations?
Yes, it gave me a great foundation in Graphic Design and the staff were very approachable and knowledgeable. I was also grateful for the opportunities we had to connect with the industry, through field trips and guest speakers.
What were the highlights of your course?
Meeting other like-minded creative people and having the opportunity to design for a broad range of projects and media.
How did your Yoobee training help you?
I learnt valuable skills in layout and typography and was able to get faster and more confident using the Adobe software. I use this software on a regular basis at work. Having these skills really helped when applying for my current role. Also the careers services at Yoobee were very beneficial. I was grateful for the support of Natalia in Christchurch, who helped me improve my CV and secure work experience.
How do feel after training at Yoobee?
I feel more confident in my design ability, allowing me to give more constructive feedback on design work to peers and out in the industry.
What is one life lesson you learnt during your study and work?
