Diploma in Film and Content Creation

You'll develop practical skills in storytelling, screenwriting, camera work, lighting, sound, directing and editing, while learning how productions come together from planning through to post-production.

Through hands-on projects, you'll explore different production roles, work alongside your classmates and develop the technical and creative skills used across the screen industry.

You'll bring everything together in a final screen project, taking your ideas from concept through to production and post-production while gaining experience working as part of a creative team.

Screen Foundations

Explore the fundamentals of filmmaking, from visual storytelling and screen language to camera, lighting, sound and editing. Learn how screen productions work, understand different crew roles and develop the skills to plan and create content safely and professionally.

Project Development

Turn creative ideas into screen-ready projects. Develop your skills in screenwriting, storyboarding, directing and production planning, while learning how to organise locations, talent, schedules and resources. Explore different storytelling approaches and collaborate with others to bring your concepts to life.

Production Practice

Put your skills into practice through hands-on screen projects. Develop camera and lighting techniques, explore art direction and production design, and build your editing skills across sound, colour grading, motion graphics and visual effects. Work in production teams and gain experience across different creative and technical roles.

Final Project

Bring everything together by developing and producing your own short screen project. From pitching and planning to filming, editing and final delivery, you'll apply your creative and technical skills while collaborating with classmates to create content for your intended audience.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive the New Zealand Diploma in Screen Production* (Level 5).

Learners will be eligible to enter this programme if they:

• Hold NCEA Level 2 or

• New Zealand Certificate in Content Creation (Level 4) or

• New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4) or

• An equivalent qualification, or relevant experience and/or capability.

Students with English as their second language require IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no band lower than 5.0, or an equivalent recognised English language test. Test results must be no more than two years old at the start of the programme.
