2024 Graduate Upskilling Scholarship for Bachelor of Animation Graduates & Alumni
We are excited to announce the 2024 Graduate Upskilling Scholarship, an initiative designed to support graduates from the Bachelor of Animation in advancing their education and enhancing their skill sets. This scholarship aims to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand by providing financial assistance for further studies, ensuring our graduates excel in the dynamic and evolving creative industries.
Objective: The primary goal of the 2024 Graduate Upskilling Scholarship is to invest in the education of our graduates, helping them acquire skills relevant to current and emerging creative industries through pursuing level 8 study.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Graduate or Alumni Status: Applicants must have successfully completed the Bachelor of Animation, Level 7, offered by Yoobee Colleges.
Academic Performance: Applicants must have a strong academic record, demonstrating excellence in their studies.
Domestic Status: Applicants must be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand or a holder of an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa.
Scholarship Benefits: The scholarship provides comprehensive support to recipients, including:
Tuition Assistance: Coverage of full tuition fees for the Honours year of the Bachelor of Animation.
Learning Materials: Funding for essential learning resources, including textbooks, software, and other necessary materials.
This scholarship opportunity will cover 100% of the tuition fees for the Honours year of the Bachelor of Animation for our July 2024 intake.

Bachelor of Animation - Honours
Level 8 | 120 Credits | Blended Delivery
The Bachelor of Animation Honours programme aims to give students the opportunity, post‐degree, to develop their artistic voice and sense of identity as animators through sustained research in a field of interest pertaining to their chosen major. Students’ creative and cultural identities are further developed through advanced project study.
The Honours supervision team will work closely with you, offering flexibility to plan your schedule of timetabled course activities which can include group readings, tutorials, lectures, practical labs, peer critique sessions, individual guided research, and workshops. Information including times, locations and any required preparation will be communicated in your supervisor meetings, and support materials and/or information will be made available by your supervisor on the Learning Management System (LMS).
What You'll Learn in the Honours Year:
During the Honours Year, you will be working on a project of your choice within your specialty. It is the opportunity for you to complete a personal project with the support of specialised supervisors and also have opportunity of getting technical mentorship by professionals of your specialty. The aim of this programme is to help you gain professional knowledge and training to access the workforce and start creating a professional network.
Supervisor Meetings (1 hour per week)

Other activities by arrangement with your supervision team
Self-directed learning expectations are regularly reviewed at supervision meetings
You’ll be set-up with communication channels and need to check regularly for relevant updates including meeting times and course activities.
Project Context and Method, 30 credits
Semester 1: 4 hours per week
Project Context and Method begins and finishes at the end of Semester 1. This course aims to support the Project Thesis by providing a critical framework and focus for the investigation and for students to deepen knowledge of research methodologies specific to their field of creative practice in order to identify and apply research method/s most suitable to their Project Thesis.
Project Thesis, 90 credits
Semester 1: 9 hours per week
Semester 2: 12 hours per week
Project Thesis begins in Semester 1 and finishes at the end of Semester 2. This course aims to provide an opportunity for students to produce a substantial piece of work focused on issues within their major field of study, through established research methods, to a high academic standard which would enable progression to a master level qualification or higher, and as preparation for the workforce. The course is designed to enable self‐direction and purpose for student work and to establish in students the confidence and skills that they will need as graduates of the degree to pursue and maintain a successful career in the field of professional animation production, or in academia.
Honours graduates will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to evolve into creative roles within the local animation industry which are currently held by overseas employees. Graduates will also be able to compete as small businesses in the global marketplace, as well as take on roles in successful studios where the characteristics associated with the ability to produce an advanced creative product are valued at a premium.
Admission Process for the Honours Programme:
Student expression of interest to their tutor, enrolment team, or Honours coordinator
Faculty sends them a project proposal form
Student fills out form with project idea (preliminary bibliography, explanation of the project, goals, resources needed) and send it back to the Honours coordinator
The Faculty review panel meets and review the proposals
Communication of the outcome to the students:
If approved, the student is accepted in the program
If changes need to be made for approval, the student can rework the proposal and try again (in a timely manner before the start of the program, or will be able to try for a future intake)
