Ryan Lewin

About

Ryan Lewin is currently a lecturer on the Bachelor of Animation at Yoobee College of Creative Innovation. After graduating and working in the industry as a concept artist, he taught for several years on the animation diploma programmes, before the completion of his own Bachelor of Animation degree. He now teaches figure drawing, academic writing, and visual design to first and second-year students. His current research focus is on the creation of “palaeoart”, of extinct New Zealand animals, with a specific interest in Cenozoic birds, such as the Moa.

Lewin’s Isle of Giants (2022) is a short 3D animated film produced as part of his Bachelor of Animation qualification. It is inspired by the palaeontologists Joan Wiffen and Ralph Molnar, who made essential discoveries and pioneered research into New Zealand dinosaurs. The film offers a never-before-seen speculative reconstruction of a New Zealand sauropod dinosaur, known only from a partial rib fragment.
